A male audience member attempted to kiss both Britty Drake from Pity Sex and Brianna Collins from Tigers Jaw last night at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Their advances, as any half-brained human being can probably surmise, were completely unwanted.

There’s an important message about personal space and consent that needs to be conveyed on this, which Jillian Lucas of Nerve does very intelligently here. But, since The Runout is a tumblr-based site—and let’s be real, the vast majority of these band’s fans are tumblr-based as well—here’s a GIF-based explainer (the only article of this kind we will *ever* publish here) that will hopefully communicate why this sort of assault is wrong in a way that any average tumblr user can understand.

Most bands know stagediving fans comes with the territory. It’s up to the band to either embrace it, encourage it, discourage it, or ignore it.

(As an aside, while stagediving is inherently stupid, it takes a special breed of dickhead to cannonball or backflip into a crowd) (source)

That said, when you’re onstage with a band you love, GET OFF THE STAGE AS QUICKLY AND SAFELY AS POSSIBLE. DO NOT LINGER.

Even worse, do not intentionally touch any band member in any way without their consent. Or anyone in everyday life, for that matter.

You don’t know them.

They’re not your friends.

Chances are, they value their personal space and you should respect that.

Women in bands do not want to be groped and kissed onstage against their will WHILE THEY’RE PLAYING OR EVER FOR THAT MATTER. Are you a crazy person?

It’s like catcalling on the street. When has that EVER WORKED on a woman?

You’re a creep, and now the entire internet knows it.

Great job!
