Maybe it’s the beer, the crappy weather or something else, but England has long been a hotbed for melodic punk. Bands like Stay Clean Jolene grew up worshipping Leatherface, arguably one of, if not the largest progenitor of the subgenre in that part of the world. The Manchester-based quartet more or less wear that influence on their sleeves for the duration of their eponymous debut full-length, but don’t mistake pointing out a clear intent/trajectory for damning with faint praise: These guys are very good at what they’re doing, melding a naturally weathered disposition with catchy guitar work, driving tempos and big choruses. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?

Stay Clean Jolene will be out later this year via Dead Broke Rekerds, Rad Girlfriend, Eager Beaver (Japan), and Drunken Sailor (UK). Stream “Easy Target” below.
